Clinical application of Hongteng Baijiang liquid combined with colon hydrotherapy instrument for retention enema in the treatment of radiation enteritis

Abstract:
Objective To explore the clinical value of retention enema with Hongteng Baijiang liquid combined with colon hydrotherapy instrument in the treatment of radiation enteritis (RE). Methods 113 patients with RE who were treated in the hospital from April 2021 to April 2022 were divided into the control group (57 cases) and the observation group (56 cases) according to the random number table method. The control group was given routine intestinal hydrotherapy with colon hydrotherapy instrument, while the observation group adopted retention enema treatment with Hongteng Baijiang liquid combined with colon hydrotherapy instrument. The therapeutic efficacy, and changes in TCM syndromes scores, radiation damage degree, inflammatory factors and immune function before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results After 10 days of treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The TCM syndromes scores of the observation group were significantly reduced compared with those of the control group (P<0.05). At 1 month of follow-up after the end of course, the proportion of grade 0~I radiation injury degree in the observation group after treatment was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). At last follow-up, there was no statistical difference in the remission rate of radiation reaction symptoms between the two groups (P>0.05), but the recurrence rate of radiation reaction symptoms in the observation group was lower compared to the control group (P<0.05). Serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05) while the levels of immune cytokines (CD3+, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+) were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Hongteng Baijiang liquid combined with colon hydrotherapy instrument for retention enema has a significant efficacy in the treatment of RE, and it can effectively relieve the clinical discomfort symptoms, relieve the degree of radiation damage, lower the recurrence rate of radiation reaction symptoms, reduce the body’ s inflammatory response and enhance the body’ s immune function.
