Abstract:
Objective To study the value of ultrasound characterization in the differential diagnosis of nonmass breast cancer (NMBC) and granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM). Methods Ultrasound characterization of 29 NMBC and 37 GLM patients confirmed by surgery or postpuncture pathology, including growth pattern, marginal condition, minimal calcifications, peripheral tissue, blood flow and enlarged axillary lymph nodes were retrospectively analyzed. Results There were statistically significant differences in nonparallel, angulation, burr, micro-calcification, enhanced echo of surrounding tissues, sinus tract, axillary lymph node enlargement;abundant blood flow; perforator blood flow and the resistance index is greater than 0.7 between non-mass breast cancer group and granulomatous lobular mastitis group (P <0.05). Conclusion Ultrasound characterization can provide valuable information for differential diagnosis and treatment of non-mass breast cancer and granulomatous lobular mastitis .
