Expression of IL-18, E-cadherin and IL-18 Biuding Protein c in Esophageal Cancer and Correlation with TNM Stage, Lymph Node Metastasis and Survival Time

Abstract:
Objective To study the expression of IL-18 , E-cadherin and IL-18 BPc in esophageal cancer and their correlation with TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and survival time. Methods 64 cases of esophageal cancer were selected to obtain esophageal cancer tissue samples (study group) and normal esophageal squamous epithelial tissue samples (control group). The expression of IL-18, E-cadherin and IL18BPc in the two groups were detected by immunohistochemistry and compared. The expressions of IL18, E-cadherin and IL-18BPc in patients with different clinical data (TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and survival) were analyzed. The relationship between the expression and the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients was analyzed. Results The positive rates of IL-18 and E-cadherin in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the positive rates of IL-18BPc in the study group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The positive rates of IL-18, E-cadherin and IL-18BPc in patients with lymph node metastasis (yes, no), TNM stage (I-II, III-IV), and survival time (< 3 years and > 3 years) were significantly different (P < 0.05). Spearman correlation analysis showed that IL-18, E-cadherin and IL-18BPc were correlated with survival time, r were 0.638, 0.578 and -0.529, respectively, P values were lower than 0.05. Logistic regression analysis showed that IL18, E-cadherin and IL-18BPc, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage were all risk factors for survival (P < 0.05). The 5-year survival rate of high expression of IL-18 and E-cadherin (36.67%, 35.29%) were higher than those of low expression (11.76%, 10.00%), while the 5-year survival rate of high expression of IL-18BPc (16.67%) was lower than that of low expression (43.75%), which the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion IL-18, E-cadherin and IL-18BPc are all expressed abnormally in esophageal cancer, and the expression level was correlated with the severity of the disease and the prognosis of the patients, which have a good clinical application value.
