Clinical Study of Floating-Needle Therapy for Treatment of Piriformis Syndrome

Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical curative effects of floating-needle therapy for treatment of piriformis syndrome. Methods Retrospective analysis from July 2017 to June 2018 during the TCM hospital in Ningbo City, which was admitted to acute onset of piriformis syndromein 80 patients for the diagnosis of clinical data. According to different treatment options, they were divided into two groups. The control group (40 patients) were received conventional medical and physical treatment. The observation group(40 patients) was treated with floating-needle therapy on the basis of in the control group. The patients in two groups were underwent follow-up survey. The degree of pain, hip joint function and patient satisfaction were evaluated by using pain visual analogue scale(VAS) scores,Harris scores and questionnaire before treatment and at follow-up respectively. Results There was no statistical difference in general data, hip pain VAS scores and hip joint function Harris scores between the two groups before the treatment.The hip pain VAS scores were lower at last follow-up compared to that in the pre treatment of the two groups, which were lower in the observation group compared to that of the control group (24h after treatment: 6.5±0.5 vs 7.9±0.6 points; 7d after treatment: 3.4±0.5 vs 5.2±0.5 points; 14d after treatment: 2.1±0.3 vs 3.6±0.5 points, P<0.05). The hip joint function Harris scores were higher at last follow-up compared to that in the pretreatment of the two groups, which were higher in the observation group compared to that in the control group (24h after treatment: 55.6±1.1 vs 43.7±1.2 points; 7d after treatment: 68.5±1.8 vs 54.6±1.3 points; 14d after treatment: 80.3±1.7 vs 63.0±1.4 points, P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the patient satisfaction in the observation group was significantly increased (92.5% vs 72.5%,P<0.05). Conclusion With the reasonable use of the floating-needle therapy under the guidance of anatomy train theory, hip pain significantly reduced, meanwhile the hip joint function and patient satisfactionincreased obviously.
