Effect of Acupuncture on Pain after Ureteroscopic Holmium Laser Lithotripsy for Ureteral Stones

Abstract:
Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture on pain after ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy. Methods 100 inpatients in urology department of our hospital were selected and randomly divided into routine group and acupuncture group (Qichong point, Zhuwuli point, Ququan point) with 50 cases each to observepostoperative pain, postoperative satisfaction rate and duration of hospital stay. Results The pain scale scores of the acupuncture group 6h and 24h after the operation were (1.50±0.82) points and (0.90±0.96) points, which were lower than those of the routine group (2.47±1.20) points and (1.77±1.04) points (P<0.05). The satisfaction of the acupuncture group was higher than that of the routine group because the number of satis?ed person in the acupuncture group was 37 while only 11 members in that of the routine group (P<0.05). The hospitalization time of the acupuncture group was (1.97±0.85) days, which was shorter than that of the routinegroup (3.00±0.95) days (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of acupuncture in ureteroscopic lithotripsy can effectively reduce postoperative pain, postoperative recovery time and shorten hospital stay, which is a safe, effective and economical method. It is worthy of clinical application.
