A Meta-analysis of Antibiotics Combined with Xuebijing in Prevention of Acute Cholecystitis and Acute Biliary Tract Infection

Abstract:
Objective Evaluation of efficacy and safety of the combination of antibiotics and Xuebijing for prevention of acute cholecystitis and acute biliary tract infection. Methods Randomized controlled trials (RCT) of the combination of antibiotics and Xuebijing for prevention of acute cholecystitis and acute biliary tract infection were searched from the Cochrane library, EMbase, PubMed, CNKI, VIP and Wanfang database from January 2000 to July 2019. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the data was extracted and processed by Revman5.3. Results Nine randomized controlled trials involving 702 patients were enrolled. The results of Meta-analysis showed that the clinical effect of combined group was significantly better than control group [OR=3.40, 95%CI (2.01, 5.84), P < 0.00001]. Xuebijing combined with antibiotics significantly reduced the WBC level [MD=–1.63, 95%CI (–2.49, –0.77), P =0.0002], PCT level [MD=–0.24, 95% CI (–0.29, –0.19), P < 0.00001], CRP level [MD=–2.34, 95% CI (–3.16, –1.52), P < 0.00001]. Conclusion Based on the current clinical evidence, the combination of antibiotics and Xuebijing had better effects on acute cholecystitis and acute biliary tract infection. These findings were required more high-quality and large multicenter randomized controlled trials to verify.
