Correlation between Tumor Germination and Lymph Node Metastasis of Rectal Cancer

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the correlation between tumor germination and lymph node metastasis of rectal cancer. Methods The clinical data of 105 rectal cancer patients in our hospital from April 2015 to March 2016 were collected, and the expression of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, Twist, Snail, Slug and Cathepsin B protein were detected by immunohistochemical method. Logistic regression was used to investigate the clinicopathologic features of patients and the relationship between the expression of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, Twist, Snail, Slug and Cathepsin B protein and lymph node metastasis. Results Univariate analysis showed that the size, degree of differentiation, depth of invasion, vascular invasion and tumor germination of rectal cancer were correlated with lymph node metastasis. Logistic analysis showed that the degree of differentiation(OR=0.070, 95%CI:0.021-0.235, P <0.05), depth of invasion (OR=7.408, 95%CI:2.223-24.691, P <0.05) and tumor germination(OR=5.732, 95%CI:2.059-15.953, P <0.05) were important factors which affecting lymph node metastasis of rectal cancer. The expression levels of snail, slug and cathepsin B in tumor germination group were higher than those in non germination group and the expression level of E-cadherin in germination group was lower than that in non germination group (P<0.05). Conclusion The degree of pathological differentiation,depth of invasion of rectal cancer and tumor germination are related to lymph node metastasis, which can be used as prognostic indicators.
