Study of Mechanism of Claudin-1 Mediated E-cadherin Promotes Prostate Cancer Progression

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the expressions and relation of Claudin-1 to E-cadherin proteins and their mechanisms in prostate cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of Claudin-1 and E-cadherin in 72 cases with prostate cancer and 42 cases with prostate hyperplasia tissue. The relationship was studied between the clinical pathological characteristics of prostate cancer and its expression. Results The positive rate of Claudin-1 expression in prostate cancer tissues was 63.89% (46/72),which is significantly higher than that of 33.33% (14/42) in prostate hyperplasia tissues. The positive rate of E-cadherin expression was 13.89% (10/72) in prostate cancer and 90.48% (38/42) in prostate hyperplasia,which the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01). The positive rate of Claudin-1 and E-cadherin protein expression were associated with Gleason grade, clinical stage, but they were not related to PSA in prostate cancer(P <0.05). Abnormal expression of Claudin-1 and E-cadherin showed a negative correlation with Spearman correlation analysis in prostate cancer, with a correlation coefficient of r=-0.68. Conclusion Abnormal expression of Claudin-1 and E-cadherin in prostate cancer may be involved in the occurrence and progression of prostate cancer. Combined detection of Claudin-1 and E-cadherin may improve the prognosis assessment of prostate cancer.
