Meta-analysis of clinical value of insect herbs against restenosis after endoluminal treatment of lower extremity atherosclerotic occlusive disease

Abstract:
Objective To evaluate of the efficacy and safety of insect-based drug therapy for restenosis following endovascular treatment of lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans. Methods Relevant randomized controlled trials were retrieved from domestic and international databases from January 1, 2014 to November 8, 2024. Two investigators independently screened literature, extracted data, and assessed bias risk. Then, Meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.4.1 software. Results A total of 16 literatures meeting the inclusion criteria were included in this study, involving a total of 1 286 patients, among which 643 patients were in the group treated with Insect traditional Chinese medicine combined with conventional Western medicine treatment (observation group), and 643 patients were in the group receiving conventional treatment (control group). Compared with the simple conventional treatment, the combined treatment with Insect traditional Chinese medicine could reduce the restenosis rate [RR=0.52, 95%CI (0.43, 0.64), P < 0.001]; increase the ankle-brachial index [RR=0.16, 95%CI (0.01, 0.21), P < 0.001] and the total effective rate of treatment [RR=1.24, 95%CI (1.09, 1.40), P =0.0006]; reduce triglycerides [RR=-0.29, 95%CI (-0.43, 0.14), P < 0.001]; and reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [RR=-0.37, 95%CI (-0.71, 0.02), P =0.04] and fibrinogen [RR=-0.22, 95%CI (-0.44,
