The therapeutic effect of low spermatic vein ligation combined with Yishen Qiangjing formula on infertility caused by varicocele

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of low spermatic vein ligation combined with Yishen Qiangjing formula on infertility caused by varicocele(VC). Methods The study subjects were selected from 147 patients with VC-related infertility treated in our hospital from November 2023 to January 2025. According to the random number table method, The patients were assigned to an observation group (n=73) and a control group (n=74). The control group was treated with low ligation of the spermatic vein, while the observation group was treated with Yishen Qiangjing formula in addition to the treatment given to the control group. The clinical efficacy, TCM syndrome scores, semen quality, sperm DNA fragmentation index, sex hormone levels, natural pregnancy rate of spouses, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the observation group demonstrated a significantly higher total effective rate (93.1%)than the control group(78.4%)(P <0.05). The observation group exhibited significantly lower TCM syndrome scores compared with the control group(P <0.05). Sperm concentration, total sperm motility, the percentage of progressive motile sperm, and the normal sperm rate were all significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P <0.05). The observation group exhibited a significantly lower sperm DNA fragmentation index compared to the control group(P <0.05). The observation group showed significantly lower serum LH and FSH levels but a higher T level compared to the control group(P <0.05). The observation group demonstrated a higher natural pregnancy rate(41.1%)for spouses compared to the control group(20.3%)(P <0.05). No serious adverse events were reported in either group throughout the treatment period. Conclusion Low ligation of the spermatic vein combined with Yishen Qiangjing formula can significantly improve the therapeutic effect on VC-related infertility, enhance semen quality and sex hormone levels, and increase the natural pregnancy rate of spouses.
