Clinical efficacy of scraping (Gua Sha) treatment combined with compound Huangbai liquid in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer

Abstract:
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of scraping (Gua Sha) therapy combined with external application of compound Huangbai liquid in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). Methods A prospective study was conducted. Patients with DFU who were treated in Wuxi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from April 2023 to April 2025 were randomly divided into two groups of 60 cases according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with external application of compound Huangbai liquid, while the observation group was treated with Gua Sha on the basis of the control group. Both groups were treated continuously for about 2 weeks. Statistically analyze and compare the TCM syndrome scores and clinical efficacy of the two groups. Before treatment, at 1 week and 2 weeks of treatment, the wound area, the skin temperature of the affected foot and the occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results At 2 weeks of treatment, the TCM syndrome scores of both groups were lower than those before treatment, and those of the observation group were lower than those of the control group (P <0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group was 96.67% (58/60), which was higher than that of the control group(81.67%, 49/60) (P <0.05). At 1 week and 2 weeks of treatment, the wound area in both groups was lower than that before treatment and showed a gradually decreasing trend, while the skin temperature of the affected foot was higher than that before treatment and showed a gradually increasing trend (P <0.05). There was no difference in adverse reactions between the two groups (P >0.05). Conclusion Gua Sha treatment combined with external application of compound Huangbai liquid can effectively improve the clinical symptoms of patients with DFU, enhance the clinical efficacy, reduce the wound area, and has relatively high safety.
