Abstract:
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of manual reduction and splint fixation based on the Wumen Medical School in the treatment of elderly patients with type C distal radius fractures. Methods Sixty elderly patients with type C distal radius fractures admitted to the Emergency and Outpatient Department of Suzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from April 2023 to April 2024 were enrolled. They were randomly divided into the treatment group (treated with Wumen Medical School manual reduction and splint fixation) and the control group (treated with open reduction and plate internal fixation), with 30 cases in each group. Fracture healing time, volar tilt, ulnar inclination and other anatomical reduction indexes before and after treatment were observed. The wrist function at the final follow-up was evaluated using the Coony wrist function scoring system, and the incidence of complications was recorded. Results The fracture healing time in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group (P <0.05). At the final follow-up, volar tilt, ulnar inclination and other anatomical reduction indexes in both groups were significantly improved compared with those before operation, and the improvement in the control group was more obvious (P <0.05). The wrist function in both groups was significantly improved, with excellent and good rates of 86.7% and 90.0%, respectively, and no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups (P >0.05). The complication rate in both groups was 10%, mainly including mild skin injury, neurovascular and tendon injury, and traumatic arthritis, all of which were relieved after corresponding treatment. Conclusion Manual reduction and splint fixation based on the Wumen Medical School is effective in the treatment of elderly type C distal radius fractures. It can effectively shorten fracture healing time, improve wrist function, and has a low complication rate, which is worthy of wide clinical application.
