Effect of Tongluo Xugu formula on postoperative functional recovery and bone immune environment in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fragility fractures of the femur

Abstract:
Objective To explore the effects of Tongluo Xugu formula on postoperative functional recovery and bone immune environment in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fragility fractures of the femur. Methods 108 elderly patients with intertrochanteric fragility fractures of the femur who underwent proximal femoral anti rotation intramedullary nail (PFNA) fixation surgery in our hospital from June 2024 to May 2025 were randomly divided into two groups based on different postoperative treatment methods. The control group was given Caltech D tablets and calcitriol soft capsules, while the observation group was given Tongluo Xugu formula in addition to the control group. Both groups of patients were treated continuously for 3 months. Compare the changes in Harris hip joint function scores, bone metabolism indicators, inflammatory factors, and T lymphocyte immune cell levels between two groups before and after treatment, and record the bone healing time and incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups. Results After treatment, Harris scores, osteocalcin (OC), serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), regulatory T cells (Treg), and CD4+ values continued to increase in both groups, and the observation group showed a significant increase compared to the control group (P <0.05). However, β-collagen degradation products(β-CTX), type I collagen N-terminal peptide (PINP), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α, interferon(IFN)-γ, helper T cells17(Th17), and CD8+ showed a decreasing trend in the observation group compared to the control group (P <0.05). The bone healing time of the observation group was significantly shorter than that of the control group (P <0.05). During the study period, there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P >0.05). Conclusion Tongluo Xugu formula can promote the recovery of hip joint function after PFNA surgery for elderly patients with intertrochanteric fragility fractures of the femur, regulate the bone immune environment, shorten the bone healing time, and has good safety.
