Abstract:
Objective To analyze factors influencing the patency duration of biliary metal stents after implantation in patients with malignant obstructive jaundice. Methods A total of 263 patients with advanced malignant tumors and biliary obstructive jaundice admitted to our hospital from January 2021 to December 2023 were selected. Clinical factors such as gender, tumor type, stent implantation type (unilateral/bilateral), history of tumor treatment, and presence of concurrent biliary infection were analyzed for their association with stent patency duration. Results There was no significant difference in patency time between males and females in 263 patients with malignant biliary obstruction (P =0.071). The patency time of ampulla cancer and cholangiocarcinoma was higher than that of pancreatic head cancer and hilar cholangiocarcinoma (P <0.01). The patency time of patients in the tumor treatment group was longer than that in the non tumor treatment group (P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the patency time between the unilateral stent implantation and the stable stent implantation groups (P =0.384). The patency time of patients with biliary tract infection after stent implantation was significantly shorter than that of non infected patients (P <0.05). Conclusion Stent patency duration is associated with tumor type, history of tumor treatment, and presence of biliary infection. Ampullary carcinoma had the longest patency duration, while pancreatic head carcinoma had the shortest. No correlation was found with gender or stent type.
