Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of combining orthopedic manipulation with Xugu Shenjin decoction on pain, swelling, and wrist joint function in children with distal radius fractures (DRF). Methods A total of 108 children with DRF treated at Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Hebei Province were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n=45) received manual reduction with orthopedic techniques, while the observation group (n=45) received Xugu Shenjin decoction in addition to manual reduction. Assess the degree of pain and swelling, monitor bone metabolism indicators, and record the relief time of pain and swelling as well as fracture healing time. Evaluate the recovery of wrist joint function and conduct a safety assessment. Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (90.74% vs 75.93%, P <0.05). After treatment, the observation group had lower scores on the visual analog scale and lower swelling values than the control group (P <0.05). Post-treatment levels of osteoprotegerin, osteocalcin, and alkaline phosphatase in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). The observation group also showed significantly shorter times for pain and swelling relief and fracture healing (P <0.05). At 1 and 3 months post-treatment, the observation group had higher modified Mayo wrist scores than the control group (P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions during treatment between the two groups(12.96% vs 9.26%, P >0.05). Conclusion Orthopedic manipulation combined with Xugu Shenjin decoction can improve the clinical efficacy in children with DRF, relieve pain and swelling, improve bone metabolism, shorten bone healing time, and accelerate the recovery of wrist joint function.
