Abstract:
Objective To investigate the applied value of combined core muscle group and abdominal breathing training in enhancing the rehabilitation efficacy for patients subsequent to percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD). Methods Sixty patients who had undergone PELD between December 2023 and February 2024 at our hospital were selected. Following the principles of randomized controlled trials, these patients were randomly allocated to either a conventional group or an observation group, with 30 individuals in each. The conventional group received standard post-operative care following PELD, whereas the observation group received an intervention regimen involving combined core muscle group and abdominal breathing training starting on the second postoperative day. The Japanese orthopaedic association (JOA) score, visual analogue scale (VAS), and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were used as the primary outcome measures to quantitatively compare treatment outcomes between the two groups. Results By the ninth postoperative day, VAS and ODI scores were significantly lower in the observation group than in the conventional group (P <0.05). Concurrently, the JOA score was significantly higher in the observation group (23.87±1.43) points than in the conventional group (22.28±2.39) points(P <0.05). Conclusion The combined core muscle group and abdominal breathing training protocol was demonstrated to be efficacious in alleviating pain symptoms in patients after PELD, expediting the restoration of lumbar spine function, and consequently augmenting clinical treatment outcomes. This approach thereby offers robust support for improving patients’ quality of life.
