Comparison of tolerance and safety of multi-oil fat emulsions and medium / long chain fat emulsions

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the tolerability and safety of multi-oil fat emulsion and medium/long chain fat emulsion in patients treated with parenteral nutrition (PN). Methods A total of 98 patients receiving long-term PN treatment from January 2023 to June 2024 were randomly divided into two groups, 49 cases in each group. The experimental group was treated with multi-oil fat emulsion, while the control group was treated with medium/long chain fat emulsion. Nutritional indexes, inflammatory indexes, liver and kidney function and subjective global assessment (SGA) scores were collected before and after PN treatment. Results Hemoglobin (Hb) and albumin (ALB) were both higher than before treatment, and ALB in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group, with statistical significance (P <0.05). There was no significant change in C-reactive protein (CRP) in the control group, while CRP in the experimental group was lower than that before treatment, and the comparison was statistically significant (P <0.05). There were no significant changes in alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and creatinine (Cr) in two groups before and after treatment (P >0.05). After treatment, the SGA score of both groups was increased, and the experimental group was higher than the control group, with statistical significance (P <0.05). There were no mechanical, metabolic or infectious complications in both groups. Conclusion Multi-oil fat emulsion has advantages in improving the nutritional status and micro-inflammatory state of the body, and does not increase the burden of liver and kidney, good tolerance, high safety, suitable for PN treatment patients.
