Analysis of risk factors for postoperative complications following knee arthroscopy

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the causes and risk factors for postoperative complications following knee arthroscopy. Methods Clinical data from 78 patients who underwent knee arthroscopic surgery at our hospital between October 2022 and March 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. The causes and risk factors for postoperative complications were analyzed. Strategies for complication minimization were identified based on the findings and established guidelines. Results The complications of knee arthroscopy occurred in 9 of 78 patients (11.5%). Complications included: deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity (n=4), knee hematoma (n=2), surgical site infection (n=1), peroneal nerve injury (n=1), and arthrofibrosis (n=1). All complications were managed appropriately with favorable outcomes. Conclusion Postoperative complications following knee arthroscopy are associated with the severity of knee pathology, precision of intraoperative technique, knee anatomy, and patient factors (including compliance with postoperative protocols). Adherence to strict surgical indications, meticulous surgical technique, vigilant postoperative management, and regular follow-up are crucial for minimizing complication risk.
