Abstract:
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of meridian acupoint therapy combined with Yijinjing exercise in treating cold-damp type lumbar muscle strain. Methods 100 patients with cold-damp type lumbar muscle strain were randomly combined with Yijinjing group (experimental group) or the Yijinjing-only group (control group), with 50 cases in each. In the experimental group, patients performed Yijinjing exercises following acupoint therapy under physician supervision, while the control group engaged solely in Yijinjing exercises. Treatments were administered once daily for two weeks. The study compared traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores, average lumbosacral skin temperature, lumbar muscle elasticity, and changes in serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and creatine kinase (CK) levels before and after treatment in both groups. Results Post-treatment, both groups showed decreased TCM syndrome scores, ODI scores, serum TNF-α, CK levels, and lumbar muscle elasticity, with the experimental group showing significantly better outcomes than the control group (P<0.01). Additionally, the average waist skin temperature in the experimental group increased (P<0.01). No significant adverse reactions were observed in either group post-treatment. Conclusion Meridian acupoint therapy combined with Yijinjing exercise is a safe and effective treatment for cold-damp type lumbar muscle strain, demonstrating advantages over Yijinjing exercise alone.
