Observation on preventive effect of traditional Chinese medicine gargle on oral complications in stroke patients with nasal feeding

Abstract:
Objective To explore the effect of Traditional Chinese medicine gargle in the oral care of stroke patients with nasal feeding. Methods Patients with stroke who were admitted to a third grade first class hospital of traditional Chinese medicine in Tianjin from October to September 2023 were selected by convenient sampling 2022. According to the method of random number table, the patients were divided into experimental group and control group with 30 cases in each group. The control group was given oral nursing with normal saline, while the experimental group was given oral nursing with Traditional Chinese medicine gargle.the incidence of oral ulcer, oral infection, oral pH and halitosis index were compared between the two groups. Results The results showed that the incidences of oral ulcer and oral infection in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group. The effect of oral pH intervention was not significant after 7 days, but after 14 days, the level of pH tended to normal and the index of halitosis was significantly decreased, compared with the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) . Conclusion The Traditional Chinese medicine gargle can reduce the incidence of oral ulcer and infection, stabilize oral pH, and alleviate the symptoms of halitosis in stroke patients.
