Abstract:
Objective To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine acupoint application in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods Search the databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Medline, Cochrane, Web of Science to search for a randomized controlled trial of traditional Chinese medicine acupoint application for the treatment of BPH. Evaluate the methodological and reporting quality of qualified studies using the Cochrane risk bias tool and the comprehensive criteria for traditional Chinese medicine test reports, respectively. Perform Meta-analysis and evidence quality assessment using RevMan 5.4 software. Results 12 articles were ultimately selected, with a total of 878 cases. After the combination of traditional Chinese medicine acupoint application and conventional drug treatment, the International Prostate Scale (I-PSS) score was lower than that of conventional treatment[MD=3.46, 95%CI(2.19, 4.74),P<0.001], and Qmax was higher than that of conventional treatment [MD=-2.72, 95%CI(-3.76, -1.68), P<0.05]. The residual urine volume was lower than that of conventional treatment [MD=4.58,95%CI(4.05, 5.12),P<0.05]. The significant efficiency [OR=2.14, 95%CI(1.43, 3.21), P=0.0002] and the total effective rate [OR=2.08, 95%CI(1.24, 3.49), P=0.005] of the TCM acupoint application group were significantly higher than those of conventional group. Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine acupoint application and its combination with Western medicine treatment can improve BPH related outcome indicators, and clinical application is safer. However, there is significant heterogeneity among the included studies, and in the future, clinical trials with larger sample sizes, rigorous design, and compliance with international standards are needed to provide more reliable evidence-based evidence for clinical practice.
