Acupoint massage combined with auricular point pressuring relieved the gastrointestinal reaction caused by chemotherapy

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effect of acupoint massage combined with auricular point pressing on gastrointestinal problems caused by chemotherapy. Methods 80 patients with malignant tumor undergoing chemotherapy were selected and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group. The patients in the control group were treated with routine nursing measures, and the observation group was treated with comprehensive nursing measures of acupoint massage combined with auricular point pressing on the basis of routine nursing. Results The gastrointestinal reaction of patients in the observation group was significantly alleviated when compared to those in the control group during chemotherapy (P<0.05), and the satisfaction of patients was significantly higher than that of control group. There was no significant difference in the evaluation of patients' self-care ability between these two groups, while the scores of anxiety and depression in observation group were dramatically lower than that of control group (P<0.05). In addition, the Nutritional Risk Screening Scale (NRS2002) scores and body measurement indicators were compared between the two groups, and the results showed that there was no significant difference in NRS2002 scores between the observation group and the control group, but the body measurement related indicators, including upper arm muscle circumference, waist circumference, calf circumference and grip strength, were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The comprehensive nursing measures of acupressure combined with auricular point pressing can effectively relive gastrointestinal problems caused by malignant tumor chemotherapy, increase patients' satisfaction , and improve patients' negative mood and nutritional status.
