Clinical study on percutaneous penetration of Achyranthes bidentata alcohol extract in the treatment of osteoporosis

Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical effect of percutaneous penetration of the alcohol extract of Achyranthes bidentata in the treatment of osteoporosis. Methods 60 patients with primary osteoporosis diagnosed as liver and kidney deficiency by TCM syndrome differentiation were randomly divided into two groups according to the order of treatment: 30 patients in the treatment group were treated by precutaneous penetration of achyranthes bidentata extract and calcium carbonate D3 tablets; In the control group, 30 patients were treated with calcium carbonate D3 tablets orally. The BMD, lumbar T value, hip T value, and bone metabolism indexes such as type I procollagen amino-terminal peptide (PINP), osteocalcin (BGP), bone specific alkaline phosphatase (BLAP) were compared between the two groups at different treatment time points. Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in BMD, lumbar T-value, hip T-value, PINP, BGP and BLAP between the two groups (P>0.05). After 6 and 12 months of treatment, BMD, T value of lumbar spine, T value of hip, PINP, BGP and BLAP in the treatment group were significantly different from those before treatment (P < 0.01), while those in the control group were not significantly different from those before treatment (P >0.05). The above indexes were statistically significant between the treatment group and the control group (P < 0.01). Conclusion The percutaneous penetration of the alcohol extract of Achyranthes bidentata has better clinical efficacy than the treatment of western medicine alone in the treatment of osteoporosis, which is worthy of further promotion in clinical practice.
