Visual Analogue Scaleand Harris Score Analysis in Elderly Patients with Intertrochanteric Fracture Treated by Operation Combined with Chinese Medicine Xiaozhong Decoction

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effect of operation combined with Chinese medicine Xiaozhong Decoction on the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Harris score of the elderly patients with intertrochanteric fracture. Methods A total of 78 elderly patients who were hospitalized for intertrochanteric fracture of femur from February 2019 to August 2020 were selected for this study. The patients were coded in Excel and then divided into control group and study group according to random number table method. Patients in the control group received simple proximal femoral anti-rotation nail (PFNA) surgery, while patients in the research group received PFNA treatment supplemented with traditional Chinese medicine Xiaozhong Decoction. Visual analog scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain of patients on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th day after surgery, and hip function score (Harris) was used to evaluate the improvement of joint function of patients before surgery, 1, 4 and 8 weeks after surgery. Meanwhile, postoperative swelling reduction time and fracture healing time of the two groups were compared. Results There was no statistically significant difference in VAS scores among the groups on the first day after surgery (P > 0.05), while the VAS scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group on postoperative day 3, 5 and 7 (P < 0.05). The Harris scores in the study group were higher than those in the control group at 1st, 4th and 8th weeks after operation (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, time of swelling reduction and fracture healing in the study group were shorter than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The treatment of intertrochanteric fracture of femur in the elderly with the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine Xiaozhong Decoction is helpful to reduce postoperative pain, promote the recovery of the affected limb joint function, shorten the rehabilitation process, which has high clinical application value.
