Plasma Metabolomics of Severe Sepsis Based on a Class of Arachidonic Acid Metabolite

Abstract:
Objective To obtain new biomarkers of severe sepsis using metabolomics technique. Methods Plasma samples of 8 patients and 7 health volunteers were collected. After solid phase extraction, samples were assayed by LC-Q-TOF in negative mode. Data was analyzed by principal analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) to discover compounds with significant difference. Results The patient group’s metabolites have difference with the control group. And we found 8 potential biomarkers in human plasma and 6 of them were associated with Arachidonic acid. Conclusion We developed an effective pathway to find biological biomarkers in sever sepsis patient' s plasma and confirmed that Arachidonic acid and several other fatty acids had potential value in revealing pathogenesis of severe sepsis.
