Clinical Analysis of 43 Cases with Sacrococcygeal Pilonidal Sinus Cured by Two Methods of Surgical Procedures

Abstract:
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus by the methods between incision and drainage plus curettage and surgical excision plus marsupialization. Methods The clinical data of 43 patients with sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus cured were analyzed retrospectively, with 20 cases underwent incision and drainage plus curettage (incision open plus curettage group), and 23 underwent surgical excision plus marsupialization (excision plus marsupialization group). Results Comparing the two methods，the operation time was (30.40±5.22) min vs (43.49±7.45) min, the hospital stay was (7.70±1.42) d vs (8.17±1.47) d, the healing time was (34.45±7.72) d vs(24.48±5.96) d，and the NRS scores of postoperative was (4.15±1.09) vs (4.74±0.96).The difference between operation and healing time was statistically significant (P<0.05), while the hospital stay and NRS score of postoperative were not statistically significant(P>0.05).There was no recurrence in both groups by the following 1-6 years. Conclusions Complete excision of the lesion is the key to cure the sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus. The sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus could be cured by choosing incision and drainage sac wall curettage in acute infection period and sacrococcygeal sac suture in chronic sinus period.
