Clinical Observation on Acupuncture Treatment for Internal Hemorrhoids with Damp-heat Diffusing Downward Based on Exterior Interior Theory of Lung and Large Intestine Phase

Abstract:
Objective To observe the curative effect of acupuncture treatment for internal hemorrhoids (syndrome of dampness-heat diffusing downward) on the theory of lung and large intestine phase. Methods A total of 264 patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into treatment group and control group (each group with 132 cases). The patients in treatment group were treated with the basic acupoints plus lung and large intestine related acupoints and the syndrome differentiation acupoints combined with oral diosmin. In the control group, the treatment was without lung relevant points. The patients in two groups were treated for 14 d. The patients’ hematochezia and the nucleus congestion after acupuncture treatment were observed. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was 91.5%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (82.3%) (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the clinical signs and hematochezia, ankle dissection, anal discomfort, anal pain, etc. were significantly improved (P<0.05). After treatment, the improvement of clinical signs and symptoms in the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After 2 weeks and 1 month of treatment, the recurrence rate of the treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Based on the theory of lung and large intestine, the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on internal hemorrhoids (syndrome of dampness-heat diffusing downward) is satisfactory, which is worthy of clinical application.
