Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical effect of self-drawn decoction fuming-washing therapy for treating acute ankle sprain (I-II). Methods Seventy-eight patients with acute ankle sprain (I-II) were enrolled and randomly divided into control and treatment groups (n=39). Both groups were treated with elastic bandage to wrap the foot and ankle joint and the ankle joint was ?xed in the functional position for three weeks with the position brace, while the patients in treatment group were additionally given self-drawn decoction fuming-washing therapy. All patients were followed up before and after 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks of treatment. The therapeutic effects were evaluated in terms of ankle pain, swelling degree and function. Results The VAS scores of the treatment group (3.21±0.40 and 2.38±0.23) at week 1 and 2 after treatment were signi?cantly lower than those of the control group (4.89±0.47 and 4.02±0.15) with signi?cant difference (P<0.05), while the VAS scores at week 3 and 4 after treatment showed no signi?cant difference (P>0.05). The swelling degrees of ankle [(1.30±0.22) cm, (0.75±0.20) cm and (0.35±0.10) cm] at week 2, 3 and 4 after treatment were signi?cantly lower than those in the control group [(2.41±0.19) cm, (1.88±0.26) cm and (1.65±0.18) cm] with signi?cant difference (P<0.05). The good rate of the treatment group (90%) after 4 weeks of treatment was better than that of the control group (67%) with signi?cant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion The clinical effect of self-drawn decoction fuming-washing therapy for treating acute ankle sprain ( Ⅰ-Ⅱ ) is positive. However, this study also has some shortcomings, such as the shorter observation time, certain limitation and so on, and the long-term curative effect remains to be further follow-up study.
