Abstract:
Objective To observe the effect of pillow therapy combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty in the treatment of elderly osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods Totally 40 patients with elderly osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures were treated with pillow therapy combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty. The relief of pain, anterior height of the injured vertebra and improvement of kyphosis were observed before and 1 month after operation. Results After 1 month of operation, the visual analogue scale (VAS) core decreased from ( 6 . 76 ± 1.16) to (2.34 ± 0 . 73 ), the anterior height of the injured vertebra increased from (16.38±2.26) mm to (28.45±6.46) mm and the Cobb angle decreased from (22.17±3.46)? to ( 8. 43± 4. 34)? in 40 patients. There were signi?cant differences in the relief of pain, anterior height of the injured vertebra and improvement of kyphosis between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Pillow therapy combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty in the treatment of elderly osteoporotic vertebral compress fractures can obviously release the backache and restore the body height of fractured vertebrae.
