Effect of Qi-regulating Chinese Medicine on Delayed Gastric Emptying in Diabetic Rats

Abstract:
Objective To observe the effect of qi-regulating Chinese medicine on delayed gastric emptying in diabetic rats. Methods The adult SD rats (110 rats, half male and half female) were randomly divided into normal group (group A), diabetes Chinese medicine group (group B), diabetes metoclopramide group (group C) and diabetes group (group D). The rats in groups A and D were given 10 mL 0.9% normal saline once daily, the rats in group B were given 8 mL Chinese medicine decoction once daily, and the rats in group C were given 0.5 mg Weifuan Tablets, once daily. After feeding for 12 weeks, 13C gastric emptying experiment and methyl orange aqueous solution gastric emptying experiment were conducted to observe the gastric emptying of rats in each group. Results The gastric emptying of diabetic rats was significantly delayed compared with that of normal rats (P<0.01). The gastric emptying of rats in groups B and C was faster than that in group D (P<0.01). The gastric emptying of rats in group B was faster than that in group C (P<0.05). Conclusion Delayed gastric emptying occurred in diabetic rats after 12 weeks of routine feeding. The qi-regulating Chinese medicine decoction of Citrus peel, Fructus Aurantii, Aucklandiae and Rhizoma Cyperi and Weifuan can promote gastric emptying in diabetic rats, and the effect of qi-regulating Chinese medicine decoction is better than that of Weifuan.
